Clicker Training

I firmly believe in positive training and have been exploring clicker training. Arming myself with tiny pieces of hot dog and a fancy little clicker, I gathered the dogs and got down to work. Having Emi, who already knows several commands was a huge help. I would give a command to Emi who performed it and got her little bit of hot dog while Kiah sat enthralled with the process. She would study Emi as she received a command, got a click and then a piece of hot dog. Finally I had both dogs in the down position and asked Kiah to “Up”. She looked at me, then at the hot dog, then at me but stayed where she was. I turned to Emi, who is still in the down and told her “Up”. She promptly went into a sit and got her tiny piece of hot dog and a click. When I went back to Kiah and asked for “Up” that little girl BOUNCED to a sitting position, smiled her best smile and got her hot dog and click. She still bounces into a sit position from a down and smiles like she is so proud of herself. I’m proud of her and I swear she picked that up from watching Emi get a hot dog that Kiah missed out on. I bet that won’t happen again!
